The Cisco VPN and Security Certifications from Cisco Certification was established in 2001 and is aimed at students who are currently employed in the Large Enterprise environments, or those who want to find employment in those environments.

The Cisco VPN and Security Certifications certifies that a successful student has learnt the knowledge need to implement complete network security solutions. The successful certified student will have knowledge of securing network access using Cisco IOS Software and Cisco PIX Firewall Technologies or configuring virtual private networks (VPN) across shared public networks using Cisco IOS Software and Cisco VPN 3000 Series Concentrator technologies.

Cisco VPN and Security Certifications Prerequisites:

The Cisco VPN and Security Certifications is generally available only to students who have success fully acquired the Cisco CCDA, CCNA, or CSE certification.

Cisco VPN and Security Certifications Paths and Exams:

There are seven career paths with their own required exams. These are:

Cisco Advanced Security Field Specialist, which the successful student will achieve by passing the Cisco 642-567 ASFE exam

Cisco Firewall Specialist, which the successful student will achieve by passing the Cisco 642-551 SND and the Cisco 642-522 SNPA exams

Cisco IPS Specialist, which the successful student will achieve by passing the Cisco 642-551 SND and the Cisco 642-532 IPS exams

Cisco Security Solutions and Design Specialist, which the successful student will achieve by passing the Cisco 642-564 SSSE exam

Cisco Security Sales Specialist, which the successful student will achieve by passing the Cisco 646-561 ASAM exam

Cisco VPN Security Sales Specialist, which the successful student will achieve by passing the Cisco 646-301 VPNS exam

Cisco VPN Specialist, which the successful student will achieve by passing the Cisco 642-551 SND and the Cisco 642-511 CSVPN exams

Cisco VPN and Security Certifications Recertification:

A successful Cisco VPN and Security Certifications student will hold their certification for two years only, after which the Cisco VPN and Security Certifications student must re-validate their certification by retaking and passing the Cisco VPN and Security Certifications exam or taking and passing the Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert written exam.
